How to get to Krakow

By Plane: Kraków Airport (KRK), also known as John Paul II International Airport, is the main airport, located in Balice, about 12km to the west of the centre. It is the second biggest airport in Poland.

Alternatively, Katowice Airport (KTW) is located about 100km from the city of Krakow and has direct connections with over 30 destinations across Europe and Asia.

By Train: Dworzec GÅ‚ówny PKP is the Central Train Station in Krakow, and is located just outside the Old Town. It is well connected to other cities in Poland.  There are just a few direct international trains to Krakow. Overnight sleeper trains arrive daily from Prague, Budapest, Vienna and Lviv.

By Car: The A4 motorway to Kraków from the German border has been completed ( it connects with the Autobahn A4).  This makes travel from the west fairly easy. The speed limit is generally 140km/h, and there is a PLN18 toll each way between Kraków and Katowice.

City information

Krakow, a southern Poland city near the border of the Czech Republic, is known for its well-preserved medieval core and Jewish quarter. Its old town – ringed by Planty Park and remnants of the city’s medieval walls – is centered on the stately, expansive Rynek Glówny (market square). This plaza is the site of the Cloth Hall, a Renaissance-era trading outpost, and St. Mary’s Basilica, a 14th-century Gothic church.

The Krakow Tourist Office will have an information desk at the congress. For online information and what to do in Krakow open this link: discover more

Clothing

The weather in Krakow in August is generally nice and warm. Temperatures during the day can easily reach 30°C (85°F). The seasonal average, however, should be around 25°C / 75°F. Evenings and nights can get chilly with temperatures falling below 20°C / 65°F).

The hotter than average temperatures this year resulted in summer thunderstorms, which are quite unpredictable. Be prepared to take an umbrella and/or raincoat.
