Message from the President
Dear Colleagues,
Andew G. Hill, MBChB FACS FRACS
It is my great pleasure to invite you to attend the 48th World Congress of Surgery (WCS), to be held August 11-15, 2019, in Krakow, Poland. The WCS is the biannual meeting of the International Society of Surgery (ISS) / Société Internationale de Chirurgie (SIC) and provides a platform for education of surgeons, surgical trainees, medical students, and members of surgical teams from across the globe. The hallmarks of the World Congress of Surgery are a broad range of outstanding hands-on learning opportunities and discussion on the most recent developments in surgical practices and research, along with unparalleled access to peers, mentors, and expertise from all parts of the world. In 2019 we will be partnering with the Association of Polish Surgeons (APS) to provide the ‘must-attend’ surgical conference of 2019.
The Program Committee, in cooperation with our Integrated Societies (IAES, IATSIC, IASMEN, BSI, ISDS, ASAP), is planning an outstanding and stimulating Scientific Program for the 48th World Congress of Surgery. The Congress will address training needs, and equip surgeons with the skills required to achieve best outcomes in our ever-changing environment.
An exciting series of named lectures will again be delivered by world-renowned experts in their respective fields. Postgraduate courses and workshops will focus on acquisition of knowledge and skills through best practices in education and training methods. More than 60 main sessions on relevant topics will be offered. The scientific program will include surgical research presentations and posters. Video-based education sessions will showcase surgical procedures.
Continuing Medical Education (CME) will be available for most sessions. Certificates of Verification will be provided for postgraduate courses.
The local organizing committee, headed by Professor Adam Dziki, has an exciting social programme planned and there are many cultural opportunities for participants also in and around Krakow.
On behalf of the International Society of Surgery (ISS/SIC), I look forward to seeing you in Krakow.

Best regards,
Andrew G. Hill, MBChB FACS FRACS
